Walking, wandering and waterside fun
Whether you prefer a gentle riverside stroll, a round of golf, a day on the water or a countryside walk with the dog, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors.
Stroll and explore
Wander from Shakespeare's birthplace to his schoolroom and into the Guildhall chapel. Stroll back through the medieval town towards the Bancroft Gardens and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, perhaps ending the day with a cocktail in their Rooftop Restaurant and enjoy the panoramic views across the illuminated town and the river.
Waterside walking
Rolling hillsides, historic woodlands and waterside trails are all part of the magic of Stratford upon Avon. Take a guided town walk, explore Rowley's Fields, the Monarch's Way and the Welcombe Country Park or follow the River Avon past Holy Trinity church where Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway are buried.
Fun on the water
I love to take the 15 min cruise into town on the river taxi but have yet to try Stand Up Paddleboarding; tuition available on the park.
You can hire your own launch, take a short river cruise along the Avon, hire your own boat or book a longer cruise with dinner on board.
Free fishing
Free fishing from the river bank in season and with a personal rod licence. This is my proud great-nephew with the pike he caught during his stay. Pike, barbel, roach, bream, zander and eels are in the catch.
